The Museum in the Park in Logan will be closed Jan. 5-Feb. 4, 2004, for installation of exhibits. The museum will reopen with regular operating hours on Thursday, Feb. 5. The newly installed exhibits, which will be on display until midsummer, will focus on the history of coal mining in West Virginia, including company towns, the mine wars, unionization, coal operators and company stores.
Part of the Chief Logan State Park complex, the Museum in the Park is a regional cultural center showcasing the best in West Virginia history and the arts. The museum, located four miles north of Logan on W.Va. Rt. 10, is operated by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History. Museum hours are Thursday-Friday from 5-9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
