Rep. Roosevelt Pineville Fete Speaker May 6
April 15, 1960
Congressman James Roosevelt:an avowed supporter of Senator John Kennedy:will be principal speaker at a fund-raising banquet set May 6 in Pineville.
Expected to be in the audience is Senator Hubert H. Humphrey, who already has accepted an invitation to attend.
Definite commitment hasn't been received from the Kennedy forces, but it is expected that the Massachusetts senator also will be present.
The dinner is planned to honor R. D. Bailey, a leader in Wyoming County's Democratic forces for 55 years.
D. Grove Moler, publicity chairman, said the banquet is not planned as a party rally:friends and long time associates of Bailey have accepted invitations from all parts of the state and adjoining states.
With Humphrey's acceptance, candidates will be on hand ranging from Presidential aspirants to constables.
A son of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the California Congressman will come to Pineville directly from Washington, D. C., and will be accompanied by Senator Jennings Randolph.
State Supreme Court Judge Chauncey Browning will be toastmaster for the banquet, to be held at 6:30 p.m. in Pineville High School. One thousand are expected.
Special features of the program, for which tickets will be sold at $10 each, will be announced in a few days, Moler said.
