Rolvaag Adds Literary Turn To Campaign

Marion County primary election politics will take a literary turn tomorrow when Lt. Gov. Karl Rolvaag of Minnesota will come here to stimulate interest in the presidential candidacy of U. S. Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey of Minnesota.

Rolvaag, who will hold a press conference at 11:45 a.m. tomorrow at the Fairmont Hotel, is a son of the late Ole Edward Rolvaag, Norwegian-American writer who won fame with the novel, "Giants In the Earth."

The novel is an account of American pioneer life and is considered a classic of its kind. Born in Norway, Rolvaag came to this country in 1896 and worked on a South Dakota farm. He wrote several books and was a professor of Norwegian at St. Olaf's College in Minnesota until his death.

The son will come here tomorrow from Morgantown. He will spend the morning at Farmington and Mannington and arrive in Fairmont in time for the press conference and luncheon. He will also visit in Monongah.

Senator Humphrey will return to this area May 5, when he will speak at West Virginia University. He will be a speaker at a Democratic rally in Clarksburg May 7 at which several party leaders will be present.

It has been reported that former Rep. Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr., who has been campaigning in the interests of U. S. Sen. John F. Kennedy, will return to Marion County before the primary election.
