To his Excellency, Governor Pierpoint,
I have the honor to address you again with respect to a commission for William Schelling of Company A 5th Virginia Regiment to take the place of B. A. Rodgers, resigned. It is very necessary that he should have the commission as the Captain and the acting 2nd lieutenants are both wounded. And I hereby respectfully request your honor to forward the commission at your earliest convenience.
The acting 2nd Lieutenant, William Kirkpatrick has not received his commission yet. He requests me to mention it.
Yours very respectfully
John L. Zeigler
