Morgantown and the New State
December 16, 1862
Morgantown, Dec. 13, 1862
Editors Intelligencer:
There was quite a demonstration last night in Morgantown by the friends of the new State. Almost every house and window were lit up. Ringing of bells, firing guns, balloon ascensions and cheering of the people spoke in terms not to be mistaken, that the ushering in of the new state produced unusual joy around the county seat of old Monongalia.
God bless the people of Morgantown; they are nearly all right on the new state question.
Rolfe.
