Resolutions of Respect.
December 23, 1863
Bulltown, December 19, 1863.
At a meeting of the officers of this post held at the Headquarters, upon receiving intelligence of the death of Joseph N. Pierpoint, our lamented young fellow officer, first Lieutenant of Company A, 6th Va. volunteer infantry, who at the beginning of the war enter the service of the United States as a private, and by meritorious conduct was promoted to a second, and afterwards to a first Lieutenancy; the following resolutions were unanimously adopted:
Resolved 1, That it is with sincere regret that we learn of this sudden dispensation of Divine providence, by which the service has lost a valuable soldier, and his fellow officers an agreeable and gentlemanly companion.
2, That in our intercourse with the deceased we have always found him the candid, social and urbane gentleman.
3, That we hereby offer our heartfelt sympathy and condolence to his immediate relatives and friends in this sudden affliction, by which they have been deprived of a steadfast friend, and his country a most earnest defender.
4, That copies of the above be furnished to the Fairmont National and Wheeling Intelligencer for publication, and a manuscript copy to his immediate relatives.
