Remember...Gale Carson Bland

Gale Carson Bland was born September 30, 1920, in Doddridge County, West Virginia, the fourth child born to Arthur and Julia Sutton Bland. Gale was active in 4-H for ten years, during which time he won eight blue ribbons, two red ribbons, and two white ribbons. He also belonged to the "All Stars" which was an honorary 4-H Organization for older members. Gale was the first 4-H member from Doddridge County to be selected to the Hall of Fame. In 1941, he attended the National Club Congress in Chicago and received the Green and White Award, the highest award given a 4-H member, at the last camp in which he took part.
Gale graduated from West Virginia University in 1942. Shortly thereafter, he entered the service and received his military training at camps located in Alabama and Texas.
In 1943, Gale, then a sergeant, was serving with the 337th Engineers General Service Regiment when he was killed on September 14 in the early stages of the Italian Campaign. Sergeant Gale C. Bland was buried in the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery.
