Larry Steven Heater was born June 26, 1948, in Weston, West Virginia, the son of Arnold and Geraldine Riffle Heater. Larry had nine brother and five sisters.
After working for the state road commission for awhile, Larry enter the Marine Corps on April 2, 1968, and was sent to Vietnam the following October. During his tour of duty in Vietnam, Larry, who attained the rank of lance corporal, served with L Company, 3d Battalion, 5th Marine Division. While in Quang Tri Province, he was wounded by a fragment from an explosive and died on December 1, 1968.
The body of Lance Corporal Larry Steven Heater was returned to the United States and on December 11, 1968, was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
A resolution was introduced on January 22, 2010, to name the bridge in Bendale the "Lance Corporal Larry Steven Heater Memorial Bridge" in his honor. |
