MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex in Moundsville will feature “Marietta Through the Eyes of David McCollough: Some Thoughts on The Pioneers,” presented by William Reynolds for the 2019 Fall Lecture and Film Series at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26. Reynolds is a historian and exhibit specialist at the Campus Martius Museum in Marietta, Ohio. The program is free and open to the public.
Reynolds worked as a research contributor to Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and author David McCollough during a year and a half of research for his new book, The Pioneers. While researching his book on the settling of the Northwest Territory, McCullough found much of his research material in the Marietta College Library in Marietta. The library serves as an archive for a collection of letters and diaries of the period. Using these documents, McCullough discovered many interesting aspects about the people and events that began the settlement of the Northwest Territories.
Reynolds will discuss what it was like to work with the famous author and will share some of the more fascinating discoveries they made.
